The Science of Peace Week was produced by the Institute of Noetic Science as part of the Summer of Peace 2012, an unprecedented summit highlighting over 120 peacebuilders working on peace from the inner to the international levels.

In this session, host Cassandra Vieten talks with guest Emiliana Simon-Thomas: Senior Research Scientist and Science Director at UC Berkeley's Greater Good Science Center.

Cassandra Vieten, PhD, is Executive Director of Research at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, a licensed clinical psychologist, author, and presenter.

Emiliana Simon-Thomas, PhD, earned her doctorate in Cognition Brain and Behavior at UC Berkeley. Using behavioral, EEG and fMRI methods, her dissertation examined how negative states like fear and aversion influence thinking and decision-making. During her postdoc, Emiliana moved into the positive terrain to study care/nurturance, love of humanity, compassion and awe under the mentorship of Dacher Keltner. From signaling, perceiving and self-reporting of emotions to peripheral autonomic and neural indices of emotion to understanding the psychosocial benefits of emotional authenticity and connection, Emiliana continues to examine the potential for enhancing everything pro-social.
